What is a Red Light Bed ?

A red light therapy bed is a full-body treatment device that uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to promote healing, reduce inflammation, and enhance cellular function. It is commonly used in wellness centres, gyms, spas, and medical clinics for skin rejuvenation, muscle recovery, pain relief, and overall wellness.

How These Wavelengths Support Healing:

  • 633nm & 660nm – Stimulate collagen production, reduce inflammation, and enhance skin rejuvenation.

  • 810nm – Penetrates deep into muscles and nerves to aid in pain relief and neurological healing.

  • 850nm – Improves circulation, accelerates muscle recovery, and reduces joint discomfort.

  • 940nm – Targets deeper tissues to reduce inflammation and support cellular regeneration.

Are red light beds safe?

Yes, red light therapy beds are generally considered safe when used as directed. They use low-level wavelengths of red and near-infrared light that do not produce heat or UV radiation, making them non-invasive and pain-free.

Red light therapy has been widely studied and is commonly used to support:

  • Skin health

  • Muscle recovery

  • Reduced inflammation

  • Improved circulation

  • General wellness

However, as with any wellness technology, it's important to follow manufacturer guidelines and usage recommendations. Overuse or improper use may lead to skin sensitivity or temporary discomfort.

Safety Guidelines

  • Protective eyewear is recommended.

  • Stick to suggested session lengths and frequency.

  • Not recommended in pregnant.

  • If you have a specific medical condition, or t

  • Caution and reduced treatment time should be considered if you are taking photosensitising medications.

  • If you have an active tumour speak to your responsible medical professional before use.

  •

At Bionovu, all our red light beds are built to meet UK safety standards and are designed for both professional and home-use environments.

How does red light therapy work?

Red light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation (PBM), uses low-level wavelengths of red (typically 620–700 nm) and near-infrared light (700–850 nm) to stimulate cellular processes.

These wavelengths penetrate the skin and are absorbed by the mitochondria, where they enhance the function of cytochrome c oxidase, an enzyme in the respiratory chain. This leads to:

  • Increased ATP production (cellular energy)

  • Improved cellular respiration and oxygen utilisation

  • Reduced oxidative stress and inflammation

By boosting cellular energy and improving cell signaling, red light therapy supports tissue repair, modulates inflammation, and promotes overall regeneration—without thermal damage or UV exposure.

Applications:

  • Dermatology: Collagen stimulation, acne, wound healing

  • Sports medicine: Muscle recovery, reduced DOMS

  • Chronic conditions: Pain relief, joint stiffness, neuropathy

  • Wellness: Improved sleep, mood, and vitality
